Firstly the wine

This was one of the first wines that I opened at home after the Dry July period ended - the lack of clarity in the photo probably gives you an indication of my rush in opening this red that I had my eyes on for a while. It was part of a mixed dozen that I bought from Qantas (of all places) and while the whole case averaged around $12 a bottle, I don't think you can get the Langmeil Steadfast 2017 for that in the local bottle-o or the winery. This looked like it was going to be a good drop and saved it to have with a Sunday roast (lamb shoulder to be precise). It was exceptional and its taste of depth of the Cab with the slight pepper from the Shiraz made it perfect for the lamb. I may go a searching for more as a result (the wine not the lamb).
So, it has been a while between blogs (and drinks - but rest assured, I have tried to make up for it since July 31!). A lot has happened in that month as well with Victoria being now in a 'state of disaster', state borders around the Country being closed again and Masterchef 2020 coming to an end (I will do a blog on that soon!).
I was going to use this post to make comment on all that is happening right now. Also share what I have been up to over the last month. However, I know that for a lot of us; particularly those in Victoria it feels like things have gone backward. The tunnel that seemed to be approaching a light just seemed to get longer.
For me, it has just emphasised that what we are dealing with is something that we haven't lived with before. No one has. Not our friends, our family, our work colleagues, our bosses, our leaders. Everyone is flying in the dark. Not the most uplifting of sentiments I know.
That aside, I would like to think that the sense of community that we saw in March & April will come to the fore again and perhaps grow even more. I know, easy to say from a city where you can go further than five kilometres from your house but it is something that I do truly hope for.
With that I would like to ask the following question:
Are you ok?
If you need to talk, vent, joke, laugh, cry or just let your mind wander aimlessly for a while, let me know (either directly at brett.moorgas@outlook.com or hit me up on the socials that I post this to). I am happy to listen and if I can help in other ways, I would be more than happy to do what I can.
I would only ask for one thing - ask the same question to someone else. Quite often, you don't know what someone is truly going through at the time and you may be asking the right question at the right time...for them.
That's it and I will leave it to Sgt Phil Esterhaus (aka Michael Conrad) from the Hill for the last word
